Pulp – Blades to Boulevards: Live in Paris, 1992 (Limited Edition 12-Inch Album on Dual Colour Vinyl)

This hand-numbered release is limited to 500 copies.

This album showcases Pulp’s iconic performance for Radio France’s Black Sessions, recorded at Maison de la Radio et de la Musique (the headquarters of Radio France), in Paris, on 17 November 1992.

The session caught Pulp on the cusp of transitioning from a decade of obscure, cash-strapped indie status to becoming iconic, multi-platinum figureheads of the 1990s Britpop movement.

Coming off the heels of their 1992 album, Separations, and early momentum with singles like My Legendary Girlfriend and Countdown, the band was shifting from their moody 80s post-punk sound, towards their signature blend of synth-pop, kitchen-sink melodrama, and electronic disco rhythm.

Here, the classic lineup of Jarvis Cocker (vocals), Russell Senior (guitar/violin), Candida Doyle (keyboards), Nick Banks (drums) and Steve Mackey (bass) perform fan favourites such as Pink Glove, Razzamatazz, Babies, Sheffield: Sex City and more.

The Black Sessions – studio performances by contemporary bands and artists broadcast on the France Inter channel – are recorded in front of a live audience and featured on the station’s C’est Lenoir show. The first session in the series was transmitted in 1992 and since then numerous French and international artists have performed Black Sessions, including Arctic Monkeys, The Cure, Nick Cave, Radiohead, the Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer and many more.
