Grateful Dead – Live at the Berkeley Community Theater, 1971 (4-LP Vinyl Bundle)

This unmissable four-disc bundle captures the Grateful Dead’s concert at the Berkeley Community Center, in Berkeley, California, on 15 August 1971, in its entirety.

The show was split into two sets, and featured a stripped-down five-man roster of Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Ron “Pigpen” McKernan.

The first set was fast-paced and direct, kicking off with Big Railroad Blues and rolling through high-energy numbers like Mr. Charlie, Big Boss Man and Casey Jones. China Cat Sunflower / I Know You Rider is a particular highlight of the opening section.

The second set roamed farther afield. The band gets ripping right away with Truckin’ before The Other One launches us into orbit. Me and My Uncle interrupts the proceedings, before we’re back for an additional six minutes of The Other One related explorations. Next up is Wharf Rat, before Pigpen becomes front and centre for a driving Turn on Your Lovelight.

Johnny B. Goode and And We Bid You Goodnight serve as two encore numbers.
