Air Conditioning is the debut studio album by progressive rock legends Curved Air. It was released in November 1970 and reached No. 8 in the UK albums chart on 30 January 1971.
Curved Air was formed in 1970 by musicians from mixed artistic backgrounds. The resulting sound of the band is a mixture of progressive rock, folk rock, and fusion with classical elements.
Led by the captivating vocals of Sonja Kristina, Curved Air’s lineup included Francis Monkman on keyboards and guitar, Darryl Way on electric violin, and Florian Pilkington-Miksa on drums, each bringing a distinct musical voice to the album. Tracks like It Happened Today and Vivaldi showcase the band’s technical prowess and artistic vision, blending rock energy with classical complexity.
The album was one of the first vinyl picture discs to be produced, and it was released as a limited edition of 10,000. Picture disc technology was in its infancy and this resulted in a level of surface noise. The disc was re-issued in conventional album format, with a photo of the original picture disc on the album cover.
This reissue offers fans both new and old the chance to experience Air Conditioning in rich, analog sound, honouring its place as a milestone in progressive rock history.
