Beatles - Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band: Official Limited Edition Picture Disc

This is a rare, much sort after album. The cover, when fully understood, is a direct line to understanding the mindset of the Beatles.

Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band was released on the 26th of May 1967. It was the eighth album from the Beatles. It marked a pivotal moment in the history of pop music because pop music officially became an art form and this album personified all the reasons why. The album brought together high art, contemporary youth and counter culture. It won four Grammys in 1968.

The album cover broke many rules of the time, principally the band presented a stylised version of themselves, as opposed to a "real picture". For a start, the album shows eight Beatles (which is often missed). The album cover featured a Pop-Edwardian design by the English Painter Peter Blake and his wife Jann Haworth. Where did the inspiration come from? " Paul McCartney later reflected "To help us get into the character of Sgt. Pepper's band, we started to think about who our heroes might be." The album cover is like a direct link to the personal side of the band.

The crowd includes Marilyn Monroe, Karl Marx, Edgar Allan Poe, Albert Einstein, Lawrence of Arabia, Mae West, Sonny Listen and many others.
