Last Concert In Japan is an album by the British Rock band Deep Purple which was released in March 1977 in Japan and in 1978 in Europe.
The album is dedicated to Tommy Bolin who passed away in 1976. The album is the powerful record of the last Japanese concert of the Mark IV-Lineup that included Tommy Bolin.
It was recorded on 15 December 1975 at the Tokyo Budokan and achieved gold certification in Japan.
The performance drew 14,000 people, an attendance record for the Budokan Hall. Unfortunately the band was suffering from an increasingly chaotic offstage lifestyle with a heavy reliance on drugs, Bolin was using heroin at that the time.
Musically however, the album is an intriguing insight into the power of Deep Purple Mark IV in concert, which makes this amazing record essential listening for every Deep Purple fan on the planet. Check out the surviving film from from the concert here .
